The Ocean Collection Story
The ocean. The sea. It has called to Scott since he was a child. Whether he was playing in the waves at the beach, leaving land far behind on his uncle’s boat, or learning to SCUBA dive at age 12, he has been drawn to it. He once wanted to become an astronaut and instead became an aquanaut. The ocean covers 71% of the Earth and it’s where life started. It’s a precious resource and, as yet, an unexplored alien environment. We must protect our oceans in order to protect ourselves.
”And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
Florence and the MachineNever Let Me Go
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
And the crashes are heaven for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean delivered me

These eco-fashion gaucho pants are sustainably made in the USA and feature the colors and scales of a painted greenling fish, taken by adventure photographer, Scott McGee, underwater in the kelp forests off Pt Loma, CA.
Bite Size Factoid: Speaking of anemones, Greenlings use certain species of anemones to hide inside their venomous tentacles to protect them from potential predators. Also, the little “antlers” above each eye are chemoreceptors, called cirri, that behave much like taste buds. So they taste with their eyebrows.

Bite Size Factoid (Spanish Shawl): A sea slug with an exceptionally, vibrant makeup. The orange appendages on their backs, also called cerata, are used to breathe by pulling in the oxygen from their liquid environment. Their cerata are also an extension of their digestive system, decorated with the stinging cells of some of the critters they eat, like anemones.
Bite Size Factoid (Feather Duster Worm): These filter feeders gather their meal by creating currents with their tentacles allowing the organic particles to be caught, travelling via their mucus filled grooves ending in their mouths. Those too large to eat will be used as decor for their exterior, tubular homes.
